Children-in-Worship is offered during both the 8:45 and 11:00 service.  Children may be brought to the room prior to either service or left there from Sunday School for the 11:00 service).  Children may also be brought to the room after the Children’s Sermon in the 11:00 service.  The topics are the same as those studied by the Pre-K through 1st Grade Children-in-Worship program.  A lesson is taught along with age appropriate crafts and games.  A snack is also provided.

1st through 5th Graders

Volunteers are on a semester basis (September-January, and February-May).  There is one volunteer for each rotation who actually teaches the class.  There is also one volunteer, a shepherd, for each grade level who goes to all rotations with the class. Volunteer Now!

These five classes use a rotational Sunday School program offered by Potter’s Workshop.  Each week, the classes study the topic in a variety of different methods.  Depending on the topic and schedule, a child may attend 3-5 of the rotations for a specific topic.

Children may identify their classroom using the bulletin board at the bottom of the stairs or the announcement board on the nametag table.  The classrooms used for these grades are:

  • Time Travel, (Room 3, downstairs): Generally a game or Bible knowledge activity

  • Holywood (Room 4, downstairs): Generally a movie and popcorn with discussion of the topic.

  • Imagination Station (Room 5, downstairs): A creative way of looking at the topic through experiments, cooking, etc.

  • Doodlestop (Room 6, downstairs):  Making a craft to teach the topic.

  • Connected to Christ (Room xx, preschool wing):  Using computers to teach the topic.

Pre-K through 1st Grade Children-in-Worship (CIW)

It is staffed by 3-5 SAPC volunteers who volunteer once per month.   Volunteer Now!

This class is offered following the Children’s Sermon during the 11:00 service.   It is an opportunity for the group to have their own worship service.

CIW begins in room 6 with a snack.  The children then move to room 5 for songs and the lesson.   Then, it’s back to room 6 for the craft.  Often the class ends in room 4 with videos.  On occasion the entire class is held in room 4 with a movie for the lesson.

During the summer months, Camp Saint Andrews is held instead of CIW.  This is a less formal offering where children are read a book, given a snack, and then have centers such as blocks, coloring pages or playdough for play.  It is held in room 6.

2nd Grade Preparation for Worship

Two volunteers who volunteer on a monthly basis lead this class.  Volunteer Now!

This class is offered during the *8:45 service and following the Children’s Sermon during the 11:00 service September through May.  During this class, children learn about all aspects of the worship service, including but not limited to the Lord’s Prayer, Doxology, Apostle’s Creed, communion, and baptism.  This class concludes with the students being given their own NIV Bible.  *If there are enough volunteers and interest, the class may also be offered during the 8:45 class.
