Mission in
East Africa
One of Saint Andrews' mission partners is
Staff of Hope
in Kenya. This ministry serves people in
remote areas by assisting with
health care, education, agriculture, and
drilling of water wells. The ministry was
founded by Jeff Spainhour, who
participated in Saint Andrews’ first youth mission
trip in the early 90’s and is now the Associate
Pastor at Triangle Presbyterian Church in
Durham.
Can You Help
Today?
Two years ago, Staff of Hope
worked with the people in Kimana, Kenya to build
Oloile Secondary School.
Where there used to be a dusty
field, there is a vibrant school with 200 high
school age boys and girls, eager to learn. Where
children used to end their education at the
primary level, they now have the opportunity to
graduate from high school and possibly go to
college.
But more needs to be done. There is no library.
There are no computers. In fact, there is no
electricity. We at Saint Andrews can help change
that. Here’s how:
-
Donate books – Love to
read? The students do, too! Our goal is to
collect 1000 books to create a school
library. We need books that will interest
high school age students. Appropriate
fiction, history, non-fiction and
biographies are needed. Both paperbacks and
hardback books are welcome. The education in
Kenya is conducted in English, so language
is no problem.
-
Laptop Computers – Can
you help us make a computer lab a reality?
We are collecting laptops, no more than six
years old and in good working condition. We
will reformat the hard disk and wipe clean
any personal information.
-
Contributions – Your
donations will help pay for the shipping
cost and help the school buy a generator
that will provide electricity for the
science classes and computer lab.
Where there was despair, there is
now hope. We will be collecting books,
computers, and contributions through April 13th
in our narthex. Help build a future for the men,
women, boys, and girls in Kimana, Kenya!
